Finding a gate that can fit into almost any doorway and opens in both directions is a hard, but The First Years Hands Free Gate will do the job for you. It has the huge advantage of being pressure-mounted, so that it will never mark up your walls and, although it isn’t portable in the true sense of the word, you can re-locate it in just a matter of minutes.

If you’re like other busy parents, chances are you’ve often got time in your day when you just want a little time alone to get things done while the child plays (within view!) in another area. This product will give you that time. Your child will not be able to open it because of the convenient parent-operated foot pedal, and because it’s made from only vertical bars, no child should be able to climb over it.

Although I think a child may get irritated and cry because they cant get to you, I think this is a very good idea to keep kids from causing too much damage to something important. You could probably put it at the door of a room that contains fragile or valuable things. And if you need to enter the room, you can simply step over the gate. =)
